Research & Development

ASKA Pharmaceutical is working on the research and development of new drugs with a framework which combines our pioneering drug discovery technologies and our experience accumulated through many years of fruitful business to constantly grow and evolve as a research and development-oriented company concentrating in specific areas. Using this framework, ASKA selects and concentrates on specific development areas to make effective use of its resources, and is strengthening its research and development pipelines by working with other Japanese and overseas companies.
Moreover, ASKA will continue expanding research and development activities in the future, with the aim of developing useful pharmaceuticals that contribute to future healthcare.

ASKA Pharmaceutical develops many in-house original products with “Altat” (H2 blocker for the treatment of digestive ulcers and gastritis) and “Prostal” (a drug for the treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy and prostate cancer developed with our steroid hormone technologies)— the two drugs showing our capability at discovering and developing new drugs. ASKA developed as the culmination of comprehensive peptide technology research, a synthetic salmon calcitonin formulation “Calcitoran”. Furthermore, medications such as an antihyperlipidemic agent “Lipidil” and a drug for the treatment of hypothyroidism “Thyradin” which are widely used all over the world are highly praised by healthcare professionals.

On the other hand, ASKA promote joint development with other Japanese and overseas companies and are developing drugs such as “BNP7787” (an antineoplastic effect enhancer for antineoplastic drugs which is in the Phase III in Europe and the US as well as Japan) and “AKP-501” (an infertility medication containing the genetically modified follicle-stimulating hormone(r-FSH) that was produced by using the completely serum-free medium.

BNP7787 is a drug that enhances the antitumor effects of anticancer drugs. BNP7787 is a product licensed from the U.S. venture company BioNumerik.AKP-501 containing recombinant FSH as an active ingredient is an infertility drug prepared with a complete serum-free medium. AKP-501 is a product licensed from JCR Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd.MENOAID COMBIPATCH is the first new drug for ASKA Pharmaceutical. It is a transdermally administered medication (patch) combining estrogen and progestin. These ingredients are continually absorbed via the skin to relieve climacteric disturbance.
